Weekly Whisky Roundup: Glenrothes, Smashing Pumpkins, and Johnnie Walker
In this week’s whisky roundup, we’ve got a Glenrothes 8 Year Old, a bourbon from FEW Spirits and The Smashing Pumpkins, and a new collaboration from Johnnie Walker.
Glenrothes 8 Year Old
The Glenrothes 8 Year Old is a delightful whisky with a nose that’s reminiscent of a fresh bakery. With notes of butter, croissants, apricot jam, vanilla, chocolate, and custard-filled donuts, this whisky is a treat for the senses. The palate is fresh and fruity, with apples, blackberry, and raisins, and a finish that’s soft and gentle.
FEW Smashing Pumpkins Bourbon
FEW Spirits has collaborated with The Smashing Pumpkins to create a unique bourbon that’s cut to proof with black tea. This bourbon starts out as the core bourbon expression, made from a mashbill of 70% corn, 20% rye, and 10% malted barley. After aging for four years, it’s cut from cask strength to 93 proof before bottling with Midnight Rose black tea from Madame Zuzu’s Emporium, a tea shop run by Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan and his wife.
Johnnie Walker Swings into Golfing Fashion
Johnnie Walker is getting back into golf with a new capsule clothing line and an experience program called ‘The Johnnie Walker Clubhouse.’ The collection includes a golf towel, T-shirts, and snapback hats, and will be released throughout an 18-month period. The brand is also partnering with Hypegolf to sponsor the Hypegolf Invitational LA 2024.
Bushmills 23 Year Old
Bushmills has released a 23 Year Old single malt, exclusively matured in Madeira fortified wine oak casks for 23 years. This expression is part of the Causeway Collection and is available exclusively at Avolta’s World Duty Free stores at Heathrow Airport for one month before being released to Avolta outlets worldwide.
