Suntory Unveils Exclusive Yamazaki and Hakushu Kogei Whiskies
Renowned Japanese whisky producer Suntory has recently launched a limited edition series of premium whiskies exclusively for travelers. The 2024 Kogei Collection features two exceptional whiskies: the Yamazaki Peated Malt Spanish Oak and the Hakushu Peated Malt Spanish Oak.
Craftsmanship and Exclusivity
The Kogei Collection, meaning ’traditional Japanese craftsmanship,’ showcases the artistry of Suntory in collaboration with Chiso, a prestigious kimono producer from Kyoto. These whiskies are available solely at select airports, adding to their allure and exclusivity.
Distinctive Flavors and Aging
Both the Yamazaki and Hakushu Kogei whiskies are crafted using peat-smoked malt from Islay, Scotland, and aged in large Spanish oak puncheon casks for a minimum of 10 years. The unique aging environments of Yamazaki and Hakushu impart distinct characteristics to each whisky, creating a diverse tasting experience for connoisseurs.
Tasting Notes
The Yamazaki Peated Malt Spanish Oak offers a bold and luscious profile with notes of raisin, dried figs, dark chocolate, and a hint of smoke. In contrast, the Hakushu Peated Malt Spanish Oak presents a more delicate and tart flavor profile, featuring light floral, citrusy, and smoky notes with a clean, gentle finish.
Artistic Label Design
To complement the exceptional whiskies, Suntory collaborated with Chiso to design unique labels using the bokashi-zome technique, resulting in visually stunning representations of the Yamazaki and Hakushu brands.
Availability and Pricing
The Yamazaki and Hakushu Peated Malt Spanish Oak whiskies are priced at S$299 each and are exclusively available at Singapore Changi Airport for a limited period of two years. Whisky enthusiasts are encouraged to seize the opportunity to savor these rare and exquisite expressions of Japanese craftsmanship.
This exclusive release marks a significant milestone for Suntory and sets a new standard for luxury travel retail whiskies.
