The World of Whisky: Exciting New Releases and Innovative Expressions

The world of whisky has seen some exciting developments in recent months, with a range of new releases and innovative expressions hitting the shelves. From Glenfiddich’s latest Archive Collection to Penelope’s Rosé Cask Finish, there’s been no shortage of interesting and unique whiskies to try.

One of the most notable releases of recent times is Glenfiddich’s Archive Collection, which showcases ten of the distillery’s finest and rarest whiskies from the past half-century. The latest addition to the collection is the 1990 American Oak Hogshead, which has been matured for 33 years and is available exclusively in global travel retail. This exceptional whisky presents notes of buttery, creamy toffee with a delicate flavour of rosewater, pear, sorbet, and oak, and a satisfying sweet finish.

Another exciting release is Penelope’s Rosé Cask Finish, a four-grain bourbon blend that has been aged for 4-5 years in new American oak and finished for four months in Grenache rosé wine casks from the Southern Rhône region of France. This unique whisky is bottled at 94 proof and presents a light and floral nose with aromatics of intense vanilla, strawberries, and a slight hint of oak. On the palate, it is smooth and easy, with flavours of vanilla, strawberries, bubble gum, marzipan, and almonds.

In addition to these releases, there have been several other notable launches in the world of spirits. Angel’s Envy has released its first unfinished whiskey, a Bottled-in-Bond expression that meets the requirements of the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897. Hermitage Cognac has launched a century-old expression, which it claims is the world’s oldest Cognac. Rosebank Distillery has released a 33-year-old single malt, its oldest to date, with only 650 bottles available. And J P Wiser’s has launched The Decades Series, with a 42-year-old whisky as its flagship release.
