The Whisky World Abuzz: 2024 International Whisky Competition Results Are In
Whisky enthusiasts, rejoice! The 2024 International Whisky Competition has announced its results, and we’ve got the scoop on the winners. This year’s competition saw distilleries from around the world vying for the top spot, with a unique format that awards only one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal per category.
The Whisky of the Year: Aultmore Oloroso Sherry Cask 25 Years Old
The overall winner of the Whisky of the Year award was Aultmore Oloroso Sherry Cask 25 Years Old, which the judges described as “a stunning display of flavor complexity and integration.” Master of Whisky, Adam Edmondson, waxed poetic about this whisky, saying: “A gamut of orchard, citrus, tropical, and dried fruits beam with clarity between honied and sweet florals, ginger, butterscotch, and a leathery depth of maturity. The palate and finish more than fulfill the promises of the nose, gaining intensity at each stage. It has a luxuriously full, round body, and a controlled warmth. It was perfectly balanced along each dimension, and I would be hard-pressed to find something about it to improve.”
A taste of perfection
Unfortunately, this whisky is a travel retail exclusive, so you’ll have to keep an eye out for it on your next airport trip. But trust us, it’s worth the hunt.
Other Winners and Notable Mentions
You can see the other winners in the other categories on the International Whisky Competition website. But we can’t help but wonder: which state makes the best bourbon – Kentucky or Tennessee? The debate rages on, with Heaven’s Door spirit brand stirring the pot by creating a pair of bourbons, one from each state.
The great American tradition of bourbon

We’re excited to see what the future holds for these new releases and the world of whisky and rum. Stay tuned for more updates and reviews from the world of spirits!
