The Price of Fame: Steph Curry’s New 15-Year-Old Bourbon Comes with a Hefty Tag
When NBA superstar Steph Curry released his first Gentleman’s Cut bourbon about a year ago, whiskey enthusiasts were abuzz with excitement. However, the final product failed to live up to the hype, with many considering it overpriced at $80 a bottle. Now, Curry is back with a new Gentleman’s Cut bourbon, dubbed Player Exclusive, and it comes with a staggering price tag: $4,500.
The high-end whiskey market is on the rise
While we haven’t had the chance to sample this whiskey yet, it’s hard not to raise an eyebrow at the price. After all, you can find a bottle of Knob Creek 15 or IW Harper 15 for around $100, and even the excellent Remus Gatsby Reserve is less than $300. So, what makes Player Exclusive so special?
According to a rep for Boone County Distilling Co. in Kentucky, where the bourbon is produced, the whiskey was distilled in 2005 and bottled in 2020. The mashbill is 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley, edging it into the high-rye bourbon category.
Bourbon whiskey is a staple of American spirits
It’s worth noting that Boone County Distilling Co. only started operating in 2015, so the whiskey was likely distilled elsewhere. The distillery sourced barrels of aged whiskey and held onto them for five years before deciding to release the whiskey.
Steph Curry’s love for whiskey is well-documented
While we can’t say for certain whether Player Exclusive is worth the hefty price tag, one thing is clear: Steph Curry’s love for whiskey is well-documented, and his latest release is sure to generate a lot of buzz in the whiskey community.
Whiskey connoisseurs will be eager to try Player Exclusive
Whether you’re a whiskey aficionado or just a fan of Steph Curry, Player Exclusive is sure to be a topic of conversation in the world of whiskey. But at $4,500 a bottle, it’s certainly not for the faint of heart.
