The Olympics: A Time for Celebration and Reflection

As the Paris Olympics came to a close, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride and awe at the incredible achievements of Team GB. With a total of 65 medals, including 14 gold, 22 silver, and 29 bronze, our athletes have truly made us proud.

But the Olympics are about more than just winning medals. They’re about the journey, the hard work, and the dedication that our athletes put in every day. They’re about the sportsmanship and teamwork that we see on display, and the inspiration that they provide to us all.

As the King so eloquently put it in his message to Team GB, “Your achievements, across so many disciplines, were forged from that invaluable combination of raw talent, true grit and hard toil over many years, burnished these past weeks by sportsmanship and team spirit in the finest tradition of the Games.”

And it’s not just the athletes themselves who deserve our praise. The support teams, the coaches, and the families who have backed them every step of the way also deserve our thanks.

As we look to the future, we can take heart from the success of Team GB in newer sports such as skateboarding, taekwondo, and trampolining. And with the news that Stanford University will be Team GB’s exclusive preparation camp for the Los Angeles 2028 Games, we can be confident that our athletes will continue to thrive.
