As the world of whisky continues to evolve, distilleries are pushing the boundaries of innovation and creativity. In this article, we’ll delve into the latest releases from Glenmorangie, Dewar’s, and Michter’s, exploring the unique characteristics and flavors of each.
Glenmorangie Dr. Bill Lumsden x Azuma Makoto 23 Years Old
Glenmorangie has unveiled a stunning collaboration between Dr. Bill Lumsden, Director of Whisky Creation, and Azuma Makoto, a Japanese botanical artist. The new release, a 23-year-old single malt scotch, evokes the pair’s love of nature and the Japanese concept of Shinra Bansho, meaning “all things in the universe.”
The whisky is a careful blend of single malts, handpicked by Dr. Bill, and features layers of florals, a whisky that is “rich, mellow, and intriguingly deep.” The official tasting notes describe the aroma as “rich, heady, and fragrant,” with flavors of peach, pineapple, damson, and plum, followed by notes of burning oak bark, roasting chestnuts, and baking sourdough bread.

Dewar’s 19-Year-Old The Champion’s Edition
Dewar’s has released its fourth annual limited-edition expression in partnership with the Professional Golf Association’s U.S. Open Championship. This year’s release features a unique double aging cask finishing method, using rye barrels from Louisville’s Angel’s Envy.
The resulting whisky is a blend of creamy vanilla, caramel, apple fritter, chocolate, and orange, with a range of spices, including cinnamon, pepper, and nutmeg. Bottled at 86 proof, this whisky is perfect for sipping or experimenting with in cocktails.

Michter’s Shenk’s and Bomberger’s Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Michter’s Distillery is set to release its Legacy Series, comprising Shenk’s Homestead Kentucky Sour Mash Whiskey and Bomberger’s Declaration Kentucky Straight Bourbon. Each release of Shenk’s and Bomberger’s has differed from previous years, with the production team making creative adjustments to each edition.
The 2024 Shenk’s release uses rye, malted rye, and caramel malt, offering a nice creaminess to complement the whiskey’s herbaceous qualities and notes of spice. The Bomberger’s release continues the use of some Chinquapin oak to accentuate the dark chocolate and stewed fruit notes, resulting in a bold, rich, balanced complexity.
