The world of whiskey is ever-evolving, and there’s no better evidence of that than the recent releases from some of the most renowned distilleries. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at some of the most exciting new whiskeys to hit the shelves, from the innovative to the unexpected.
Old Forester’s Rum Finish
Old Forester, known for its affordable bourbons and rye whiskeys, has just released the latest edition in its 117 Series: Rum Finish. This limited-edition bourbon takes the distillery’s signature whiskey and finishes it in rum barrels for a sweet and complex twist. According to Caleb Trigo, Old Forester’s assistant master distiller, “By finishing our signature bourbon for approximately six months in these rum barrels, we have complimented and accentuated the sweet aromatics of Old Forester with hints of brown sugar and molasses, emboldening its rich character.”
Chattanooga Whiskey’s Vintage Series
Meanwhile, Chattanooga Whiskey is celebrating the release of its Spring 2020 Vintage Series. This wheated bourbon is made from a blend of three unique mash bills and is bottled at 100 proof. According to Grant McCracken, founding distiller, “Each distilling season, our entire grain-to-glass production team comes together to develop our newest Bottled in Bond vintage.”
Blue Run Spirits’ Flight Series
And finally, Blue Run Spirits is making waves with its new Flight Series, a collection of six unique bourbons blended from three to four barrels each. According to Shaylyn Gammon, head of whiskey development, the goal was to create a whiskey that reacts and opens up to variations in temperature and humidity, much like the human palate. The result is a whiskey that is both unique and delicious.
