Craftsmanship and Distillation
Chief blender Shinji Fukuyo, a fifth-generation master at Suntory, embarked on a unique journey to create the Kogei whiskies. By sourcing peat-smoked malt from Islay, Scotland, and distilling it at the Yamazaki and Hakushu facilities, Fukuyo ensured a distinct character for each spirit. The whiskies are then aged in large Spanish oak puncheon casks for a minimum of 10 years, allowing the flavors to mature and develop.

The Yamazaki Peated Malt Spanish Oak boasts a bold and luscious profile, with notes of raisin, dried figs, and dark chocolate complemented by a subtle hint of smoke. To enhance the allure of the Kogei Collection, Suntory partnered with Chiso, a Kyoto artisan renowned for its expertise in dyeing kimonos using the kyoto-yuzen method. The whisky labels feature intricate designs created through the bokashi-zome technique, adding a touch of elegance to the presentation.
Availability and Pricing
Whisky enthusiasts can acquire the Yamazaki and Hakushu Peated Malt Spanish Oak whiskies exclusively at Singapore Changi Airport for S$299 each. However, availability is limited, with the collection set to run for two years before a new iteration is introduced.
