Steph Curry’s New 15-Year-Old Bourbon: Worth the Hefty Price Tag?

When NBA superstar Steph Curry released his first Gentleman’s Cut bourbon, whiskey enthusiasts were abuzz with excitement. However, the whiskey failed to live up to the hype, with many considering it overpriced at $80 a bottle. Now, Curry’s brand has announced a new Gentleman’s Cut bourbon, dubbed Player Exclusive, which comes with a staggering price tag of $4,500.

Bourbon connoisseurs, beware: this one comes with a hefty price tag.

So, what makes this bourbon so special? For starters, it’s a 15-year-old whiskey, which is certainly impressive. However, when you consider that you can find a bottle of Knob Creek 15 or IW Harper 15 for around $100, and even the excellent Remus Gatsby Reserve is less than $300, the price tag starts to look a bit steep.

The whiskey was distilled in 2005 and bottled in 2020, with a mashbill of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley, making it a high-rye bourbon. The official tasting notes list crème brûlée, butterscotch, orange peel, spice, hazelnut, cherry, and oak on the palate.

A luxury bourbon fit for an NBA superstar.

This extremely limited release of only 100 bottles is sure to be a collector’s item, with each decanter numbered and etched with Curry’s signature. The stopper even features the letters “T.C.C.,” short for Curry’s motto: “Trust, Commitment, Care.”

The first bottle was sold at the Golden State Warriors Foundation annual event for a whopping $350,000, with proceeds going to charity. If you’re feeling flush and want to try this bourbon for yourself, you can order from Back Room Wines in Napa, Calif. starting in June.

Bourbon tasting: an art form.

While we haven’t had the chance to sample this whiskey yet, we’re intrigued by the possibilities. Could this bourbon be worth the hefty price tag? Only time (and a taste test) will tell.
