Global Success for North Yorkshire Distillery
As a whisky enthusiast, I’m always on the lookout for exciting developments in the world of spirits. And what’s more exciting than a local distillery making waves on the global stage? Spirit of Yorkshire, based in Hunmanby, near Scarborough, has done just that, taking home an impressive haul of awards at the 2024 International Wines and Spirits Competition (IWSC).
The art of whisky-making is a labor of love
The IWSC is no small feat, with a distinguished panel of judges and a commitment to quality that recognizes excellence in whisky from around the globe. And Spirit of Yorkshire’s MD and Co-founder, David Thompson, is rightly proud of their achievement. “We’re delighted and proud that Filey Bay Whisky excelled against tough competition to win seven awards,” he said.
The coveted gold award
One particular standout was Filey Bay STR Finish Batch #4, which earned a 95-point Gold, Spirit of Yorkshire’s first-ever Gold award from the IWSC. This is no small feat, and a testament to the craftsmanship, diversity, and innovation within the whisky industry.
As someone who’s had the pleasure of sampling some of Spirit of Yorkshire’s finest, I can attest to the quality and craftsmanship that goes into every bottle. And with awards like these, it’s clear that the rest of the world is taking notice too.
The joy of whisky tasting
The world of whisky is full of passionate individuals, and David Thompson’s enthusiasm is infectious. “The IWSC celebrates excellence in whisky from around the globe,” he said. And with Spirit of Yorkshire leading the charge, it’s clear that English whisky is on the rise.
The Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery, where the magic happens
So here’s to Spirit of Yorkshire, and to the bright future of English whisky. May their success inspire others to follow in their footsteps, and may we all raise a glass to the art of whisky-making.
