Boann Distillery Unveils Trio of Single Pot Still Whiskeys

Co. Meath distillery Boann is making waves in the whiskey world with the launch of its first Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey release for the global market. This exciting new trio of whiskeys marks a significant milestone for the distillery, which revived whiskey distilling in Drogheda after a 160-year hiatus with its limited-release Solstice Pot Still in December 2022.

The spirit used to create these three new whiskeys was crowned Best New Make and Young Spirit at the World Whiskies Awards in 2021, setting the bar high for this latest release. Each expression has been matured in a variety of casks, imparting a distinct flavour profile that whiskey enthusiasts will love.

Pedro Ximinez Cask

The Pedro Ximinez release is a true standout, with a decadent nose bursting with aromas of raisins and figs, beautifully backed by molasses, sweet caramel, and a touch of leather. The palate is sweet and savoury, with a wonderful mixture of honey syrup, fine dark chocolate, crispy bacon, and cracked white pepper. The finish is long and rich, with earthy caramel flavours that linger long after the glass is empty.

Madeira Cask

The Madeira release is another highlight, with a vibrant nose that entices with aromas of apples and peaches, followed by wonderful honey notes and a toasted oak spice. The palate is velvety smooth, with peaches and cream on entry, overlaid with vanilla, walnuts, dried fruit cake, and a delicate minerality throughout. The finish is long and crisp, with fresh lemon oil and a lingering savoury spice.

Marsala Cask

Last but not least, the Marsala release is a masterclass in balance and complexity. The nose is evocative, with subtle spices backed by resinous bark and burnt orange aromas, with notes of freshly cut grass and floral honey. The palate is rich and viscous, with sweet marmalade on entry, superseded by peppermint and oak spices. The finish is prolonged, imparted with delightful notes of cinnamon and clove.

“It was always our dream to craft and distil our very own Irish whiskey in the heart of the Boyne Valley,” said Mr Cooney. “We are creating whiskeys of distinct character and provenance and are writing the next chapter in the fascinating story of Single Pot Still Irish whiskey.”

These new offerings are presented in bespoke packaging, bottled at 47% ABV with natural colour. All three are available on boanndistillery.ie, with an RRP of €69.95. They will be rolled out nationally and internationally over the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for these exceptional whiskeys.
