Barrell Bourbon Batch 036: A New Era of Transparency

The world of bourbon has just gotten a whole lot more exciting with the release of Barrell Bourbon Batch 036. This latest batch is a blend of bourbons from three states, boasting a total mashbill of 79% corn, 16% rye, and 5% malted barley. The components of the blend are:

  • 7.5-year-old Indiana bourbon
  • 8-year-old Indiana bourbon
  • 8-year-old Tennessee bourbon
  • 9-year-old Kentucky bourbon
  • 10-year-old Indiana bourbon
  • 15-year-old Tennessee bourbon

Bottled in Kentucky at a cask-strength 114.44 proof

This batch is not only a masterpiece of blending but also marks a new era of transparency in the bourbon industry. The front label now prominently displays the batch number, discloses the state(s) from which the whiskey was sourced, and the age of every whiskey in the blend. The back label includes the mashbill of the spirit.

“Since our founding, we’ve intentionally sold our whiskey as transparently as possible,” said Barrell Craft Spirits founder Joe Beatrice. “Our new batch label, which debuts on Barrell Bourbon Batch 036, goes one step further toward giving whiskey lovers the blending and mash bill information they crave about what’s in their glass in a more convenient format that’s easy to find.”

The bourbon is available via select retailers and at the BCS website, with a suggested retail price of $89.99 per 750-milliliter bottle.

Tasting Notes

  • Color: Tawny
  • Nose: The aroma starts with honey, lime, tangerine, and apricot, then evolves into cherry jam, Marcona almonds, and buttermilk pancakes. Notes of Snickerdoodle cookies, Kuromitsu, chocolate mint, and a touch of cinchona bark emerge, followed by subtle notes of fresh citrus.
  • Taste: The palate starts out rich with notes of caramel, cherry cola, pecan pie, and chocolate torte, followed by citrus zest and cherry cordial. Hints of pepper and cardamom flicker throughout the mid and back palate, followed by a dusting of cacao, Saigon cinnamon, and oranges.
  • Finish: Cinnamon, white pepper, citrus zest, and cherry

With a splash of spring water:

  • The aroma expands to Hufsie spiced tea loaf, mead, brown butter cookies, and cinnamon doughnuts.
  • The palate becomes more decadent with notes of salted caramel latte, baklava, and streusel.
  • The finish coats your mouth with notes of cinnamon orange coffee cake and a touch of oak.
