Aberfeldy’s New Whisky Adventure: The Malbec Cask Finish
The world of whisky is ever-evolving, with distilleries constantly pushing the boundaries of flavor and innovation. In a bold move, Highland distillery Aberfeldy has unveiled its latest creation - the Aberfeldy 21 Year Old Malbec Cask Finish. This limited edition single malt has been making waves in the whisky community for its unique maturation process and exceptional tasting notes.
To create this masterpiece, Aberfeldy turned to the expertise of Argentinian winery Finca Ambrosia. The whisky spent nearly eight months in French oak wine casks previously used to age the winery’s Viña Única expression. The result is a harmonious blend of whisky and wine, showcasing the best of both worlds.
Stephanie Macleod, Bacardi malt master, describes the Aberfeldy 21 Year Old Malbec Cask Finish as a delicate yet complex dram. It opens with sweet toasted cereal and herbal sage notes, leading into a symphony of ripe strawberries and Aberfeldy’s signature Highland honey. The journey culminates in floral hints of rose and violet, with a touch of cinnamon spice, and a creamy vanilla finish that lingers on the palate.
This exceptional whisky is bottled at 46% ABV and is priced at US$280. It is currently available in select markets across the globe, including Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, the UK, and the US.
Aberfeldy’s foray into wine cask finishes is not new, with previous releases including Bordeaux, Cadillac white wine, Napa Valley red wine, Tuscan red wine, and Côte-Rôtie wine cask finishes. Each expression in Aberfeldy’s Wine Cask Collection offers a unique tasting experience, showcasing the artistry and craftsmanship of the distillery.
Whether you’re a seasoned whisky connoisseur or a curious newcomer, the Aberfeldy 21 Year Old Malbec Cask Finish promises a journey of flavor and discovery. Embrace the spirit of adventure and savor this exceptional dram that marries the worlds of whisky and wine in perfect harmony.
