A Home Run for Whiskey Fans: Introducing the Babe Ruth Reserve
As a whiskey enthusiast, I’m always on the lookout for new and exciting releases. And when I heard about the Babe Ruth Reserve, a high-rye bourbon tribute to the baseball legend, I knew I had to learn more.
The crack of the bat, the smell of the freshly cut grass, and a glass of fine bourbon in hand - what’s not to love?
MGP, the massive Indiana distillery behind some of our favorite brands, including Dickel and Bulleit, has released this new bourbon under its Ross & Squibb label. And if their previous premium expressions, like the 15-year-old Remus Gatsby Reserve, are anything to go by, we’re in for a treat.
The Babe Ruth Reserve is a blend of three high-rye bourbons, each with a different mashbill containing 49 percent rye, 44 percent rye, and 36 percent rye - a nod to Ruth’s iconic uniform number. The result is a bourbon that’s said to boast notes of brown sugar and fig on the nose, with mint, brown sugar, fennel, and candied pecans on the palate, and warm rye spice and cinnamon on the finish.
The art of blending is a delicate one, but when done right, it can result in something truly special.
At around six to seven years old, the Babe Ruth Reserve is younger than its Gatsby counterpart, but it’s also about $100 cheaper. And if you’re looking for a premium bourbon that won’t break the bank, this might just be the one.
The Bambino himself would be proud of this tribute.
As I sit here, sipping on a glass of fine bourbon and thinking about the great game of baseball, I’m reminded of the importance of tradition and heritage. And the Babe Ruth Reserve is a whiskey that honors that tradition in the best possible way.
So, whether you’re a whiskey fan, a baseball enthusiast, or just someone who appreciates the finer things in life, the Babe Ruth Reserve is definitely worth a try. And who knows, it might just become your new go-to bourbon.
